You’ve Been Removing Eggs From The Carton Wrong

Well, folks, we have all heard those million questions/pieces of advice associated with eggs, right? Don’t put all your eggs in one basket. Or the million-dollar question “Did the egg come first or the chicken?” These are all “egg-cellent” pieces of advice or questions. Now, we are here to enlighten you on another eggs-plosive mystery, one that you might not have even aware of!

Have you heard of the saying, “You’ve got to break a few eggs to make an omelet”? But, before you even get to do that, you’ve to go to the market and buy the eggs, right?

So, you went to your neighborhood market, bought a dozen eggs and brought them home. But before you get started on your omelet or your half fry, you have to remove the eggs from its packaging — the carton. And, careful, if you thought there is no right or wrong way to remove eggs from the carton, turns out there is.

Like the other sundry things that find their way on the Twitterverse, this egg-removing conundrum too found its way to the Twitter, when a Twitter user, Brian Faughnan, asked the twitter birds whether they removed their eggs from the carton in a left-to-right or right-to-left manner, by posting a picture of an egg carton.

This opened the floodgates to a question which might’ve never crossed your minds till now. But once it was out, there was no going back. And Twitter had a lot to say about this. The Twitterati was firmly divided into four distinct camps, the left-to-right or right-to-left camp, from the center camp, the outside-in faction and well, the disruptive, random pickers.
So, settle in, for you are about to hear very different sides in this eggs-plosive debate.

1. The Left-To-Right/ Right-To-Left Method

Since our brains seek to create order from disorder and try to work in patterns, a lot of us tend to do things in a symmetrical fashion. So obviously, there were a lot of proponents of this method. A few of them even said that after taking out the eggs, they broke the carton in half when it became empty halfway to make it more stable.

2. Taking From The Center

Members of this faction were more concerned with the structural stability of the carton over the orderliness of the unpacking. Their deep concern for stability of the egg carton (and probably in life) saw them opting for taking eggs from the center, and proceeding towards the edges, as the carton became empty. They did so because according to them, grabbing eggs from the middle ensured that the sides or the edges of the carton were balanced and there was less chance of the carton falling due to weight imbalance.

3. Evening It Out

The members of this camp were more concerned with the center of gravity of the carton. They opted for taking out the eggs from both the sides so as to redistribute the mass of the eggs more evenly to avoid spillage. A few users even pointed out that an ideal solution to the problem would be if the eggs were arranged in a zig-zag manner as it would keep the weight distributed evenly.

4. No Particular Order

There is a foil to everything; sugar has salt, darkness has light, and order has chaos, there was a faction in the debate for whom the logistics and the physics of the carton didn’t matter as much.

They opted for the no-method method and said they unpacked their eggs at random, without any well-thought-out logic. Rather than be too serious just for the sake of being serious, these folks kept the tone of the debate light-hearted by pointing out the absurdity of the whole debate by giving witty answers like these.

So, folks which camp do you fall in? Just remember it doesn’t matter what method you prefer as long as you ensure that those eggs reach your plate at the end, for an egg is a nutritious meal in itself, which provides a whole host of benefits such as containing the nine essential amino acids. These amino acids are not processed in our body and therefore, we have to have them in our diet.

Besides this, eggs also help in building up your good cholesterol and lowering your triglycerides. One more benefit of including eggs in your diet is a sharper brain as the eggs contain a substance called choline that is thought to influence brain development (1) So the million-dollar question isn’t how you unpack your eggs, rather it’s how you pack them in your meal. If you would rather listen to us, it doesn’t matter whether it’s sunny-side up or hardboiled or scrambled. As long as it’s Sunday ho ya Monday, roz khao anday!
