For those who missed it, back in October, the world lost its s*** over a video featuring Japanese comedian Daimaou Kosaka performing a song called "Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen" as the fictional songwriter Piko-Taro. The nonsensical track grew to be a world sensation that even Justin Bieber couldn't ignore, in fact he Tweeted about the tune, calling it his, "favorite song on the internet."
"Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen" became the shortest song to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, and even justified the creation of a full-length single. It was pretty much the hottest thing in the world for a few weeks — and totally for good reason.
Today, newly leaked behind-the-scenes footage from a commercial for Japanese company SoftBank shows the pop star finally meeting up with Kosaka in person. The footage shows the two former YouTube sensations meeting and speaking in front of a full classroom, as well as Bieber greeting students, speaking Japanese, and dabbing. It's funny and heartwarming all at the same time.
Over the last week, Bieber has broken out of his pop shell, and reinvented his commercial sensationalism as well. On Sunday, he was featured in a T-Mobile advertisement during the Super Bowl where he plays a "Celebration Expert" and takes viewers through the history and development of celebratory dances, from the caveman era through modern day touchdown serenades. The only real question is, just what will Bieber do next?
