Will Smith is delving into the sports world once again with a new biopic where he will play Richard Williams, the father of tennis legends Serena and Venus Williams.
While a director hasn't been set at this time for the project, entitled King Richard, Deadline reports that the 50-year-old actor hasn't set his next film yet and that this is a project the actor is 'passionate about' so it could come together quickly. Smith will also produce through his Overbrook Entertainment company, with Zach Baylin writing the hot spec script that has been making the rounds. Although he had no formal tennis training, Richard Williams still managed to raise two of the sport's greatest champions from their humble beginnings in Compton, California. He would ultimately take tennis lessons from a man named 'Old Whiskey,' and after seeing Virginia Ruzica win a tournament in Salt Lake City in 1980, he was inspired to raise his daughters to become tennis champions.
